Repro Uncensored Coalition
Repro Uncensored (RU) is a coalition of reproductive health and internet freedom organizations committed to ensuring that everybody can find accurate and reliable online abortion information whenever they need it.
RU was founded by Women on Web, Plan C, Women First Digital, Amnesty International USA, and ReproAction, bringing together the collective knowledge and expertise of non-profit organizations, creatives, healthcare providers, researchers, lawyers and digital rights advocates.
Together with 23 members and 6 creative partners, the coalition has pushed for policy changes and developed solutions, tactics, and strategies to combat and circumvent digital suppression. We’ve also held conversations with Big Tech companies, engaged with major media outlets and restored access to censored content by leveraging our network.
RU works in 3 ways
Advocacy
Central to our mission is the co-creation of global advocacy campaigns focused on ending the digital suppression of abortion information. We address Big Tech and government policies that limit access to reproductive health information.
Research
RU actively collects and analyzes examples of censorship within the digital sexual and reproductive health space to track instances of digital suppression. Our website serves as a comprehensive resource hub for the research carried out by member organizations, and serves as a resource for researchers to seek our expertise.
Education
Raising awareness of digital suppression is the first step in building power to combat it. RU members engage in collaborative digital strategy work to improve the visibility of digital reproductive health resources. Members organize educational workshops, panel events, and foster partnerships with global organizations to expand outreach and information sharing.
Changes RU wants
- Greater transparency from social media companies around their abortion content moderation and advertising policies
- Improved mechanisms for taking down abortion mis/disinformation to ensure that harmful information does not proliferate
- Reform Google’s health content screening to promote accurate abortion information and more nuanced Google ads policies certifying digital abortion providers worldwide
- Digital spaces where the right to information and privacy are protected
